Drishyam 3 witnesses major dip on day 12

Mohanlal’s much-awaited Drishyam 3 has hit a speed bump at the box office. After a solid first week, the film saw a massive 58.9 percent drop in collections on its twelfth day. According to industry estimates, the film earned just Rs 2.20 crore India net on Day 12, down from Rs 5.35 crore the previous day.

The film’s total India net collection now stands at Rs 98.90 crore, with the India gross at Rs 114.76 crore. That means the Georgekutty franchise is just a whisker away from entering the coveted Rs 100 crore club in India. Day 12 earnings came from 2,276 shows across the country, with the Malayalam version contributing the lion’s share at Rs 2 crore. Telugu added Rs 12 lakhs, Tamil brought in Rs 5 lakhs, and Kannada contributed Rs 3 lakhs.

Overseas numbers give Drishyam 3 a boost

While the domestic numbers have slowed, Drishyam 3 continues to perform decently overseas. The film collected Rs 75 lakhs on Day 12 from international markets, pushing its overseas gross to Rs 110 crore. The worldwide gross collection has now reached a healthy Rs 224.76 crore.

The film had shown strong consistency during the middle phase of its opening week, collecting Rs 6.50 crore on its first Tuesday, followed by Rs 6.65 crore on Wednesday and Thursday. The first week ended with an impressive Rs 81.95 crore total. However, the sharp drop on Day 12 suggests that the film might be losing steam as it enters its third week.

The Telugu version recorded an overall occupancy of 10.88 percent on Day 12, indicating that dubbed versions are also seeing a decline in audience interest.

What critics are saying about the third chapter

Drishyam 3 revisits Georgekutty and his family years after the events that changed their lives forever. On the surface, life appears peaceful. Georgekutty has become a successful film producer, his daughters have grown up, and the family seems settled. But hidden fears and unresolved memories continue to linger in the background.

However, not everyone is convinced that this third chapter was necessary. According to one review, the film struggles with pacing and takes too long to establish its emotional conflict. The suspense doesn’t organically build for a significant portion of the runtime. The review notes that while the original film had closure within its moral ambiguity)Skip the second part effectively expanded the psychological consequences, this third chapter often feels like a continuation driven more by the weight of a successful franchise than by urgent storytelling need.

Despite the mixed critical reception, the film’s box office numbers show that the audience’s love for Georgekutty remains strong. Whether Drishyam 3 can cross the Rs 100 crore mark in India will depend on its performance over the coming weekend.
