Day 18 Sees a Steep Fall
Ayushmann Khurrana’s Pati Patni Aur Woh Do hit a rough patch on its 18th day in theatres. According to Sacnilk estimates, the film managed only Rs 80 lakh India net on Wednesday — a sharp 60% dip from the Rs 2 crore it earned the previous day. The drop was expected after a moderate weekend, but the weekday slowdown has caught everyone’s attention. Only 2,703 shows were running across the country, with overall occupancy dipping to 11.81%.
Evening shows performed slightly better at 14.23% occupancy, and night shows followed at 13.92%. But morning and afternoon slots were almost empty. Industry insiders say the film’s box office momentum has fizzled out quickly, especially after the third weekend’s slight uptick.
The Overall Box Office Picture
With the day 18 addition, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do now stands at Rs 47.75 crore India net, while the India gross has reached Rs 56.70 crore. The first week itself clocked Rs 29 crore, but the second week saw a predictable decline. The film earned Rs 1.75 crore on day 16 and Rs 2 crore on day 17 before crashing to Rs 80 lakh on day 18.
Overseas collections add some cheer — the film has pulled in Rs 7.65 crore gross from international markets, pushing the worldwide gross to Rs 64.35 crore. Not bad for a spiritual sequel, but given the star power involved, the numbers are tad disappointing. After all, the 2019 original Pati Patni Aur Woh had set decent expectations.
What’s the Film About?
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, Pati Patni Aur Woh Do follows a married couple in Prayagraj whose ordinary life gets messy when a fake romantic setup goes wrong. Ayushmann plays Prajapati Pandey, who creates a misunderstanding involving his friend Chanchal Kumari (Sara Ali Khan) to distract a politician from his son’s relationship. The cast also features Wamiqa Gabbi and Rakul Preet Singh.
Critics have noted that despite talented performers — Vijay Raaz, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Ayesha Raza bring solid comic timing — the script gets tangled in its own confusion. The situational comedy works only in parts, with Ayushmann going over the top at times. Overall, the film hasn’t managed to deliver consistent laughs, making it a mixed bag for audiences. Chal be, kya hi kehna!
