Lizzo is back with a bang and a brand new album that’s already got everyone talking. The Grammy-winning artist has titled her latest project B*tch, and she’s not holding back on why she chose such a bold name.
The singer, who famously declared “I’m 100 per cent that bitch” in her 2017 smash hit Truth Hurts, says the title feels like a natural evolution for her. According to Lizzo, the word has transformed from a common insult into a personal symbol of strength, confidence, and self-acceptance.
In an interview with Rolling Stone (as shared by industry insiders), Lizzo revealed how many incredible women in music before her have used the term in a positive way. “Reclaiming the word Bitch is power – it’s taking a label once used to diminish women and turning it into a declaration of confidence, and unapologetic self-love,” she explained. Citing artists like Meredith Brooks and Missy Elliot, Lizzo added, “It was only fitting to name my album Bitch because it has become my favorite word when using it on my own terms and because I am 100 per cent that bitch!”
From Overthinking to Unapologetic Songwriting
But it’s not just the album title that’s making headlines. Lizzo opened up about how her approach to songwriting has changed dramatically over the years. She admitted that in the past, she used to spend way too much time worrying about how listeners might react to her lyrics.
The singer revealed that she originally wrote a different line for Truth Hurts but changed it out of concern for offending certain fans. “I said, ‘I will never ever, ever, ever, ever be a side chick’ in the original [of Truth Hurts]. And then I was like, ‘Mm, but what if I offend side chicks?’ And so I was like, ‘I will never ever, ever, ever, ever be your side chick,'” she recalled.
Explaining her thought process, Lizzo said, “I always overthink these things because I know who’s consuming my music and I’m very [concerned about] how they’re going to feel, how it’s going to affect them.” It seems the artist has now fully embraced her voice, letting go of that fear for her latest project.
Shutting Down Taylor Swift Feud Rumors
And if that wasn’t enough, Lizzo also had to deal with some spicy social media drama. Rumors started swirling after an X user compared the performance of Taylor Swift’s latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, with songs from Lizzo’s 2025 mixtape. Things got messy when one user accused Lizzo of talking negatively about Taylor Swift, claiming it had even affected her career.
Lizzo didn’t take it lying down. She quickly hopped on X to set the record straight, writing, “Are you well? First of all I have never talked s*** about Taylor Swift – also while we on the subject I’ve never talked s*** about any artist. Just because I mention an artist by name does not mean I’m talking s*** – grow tf up pls.” The singer made it crystal clear she has nothing but respect for her fellow artists and won’t be dragged into any fake controversies.
With a powerful album title, a refreshed approach to her craft, and a clear stance on beef-free vibes, Lizzo is proving once again that she’s here to uplift and slay – on her own terms, of course!
