CBFC Clears Cocktail 2 with ‘A’ Certificate
Bollywood’s most anticipated romcom of the season just got a spicy twist. Cocktail 2, starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an ‘A’ certificate. The film, which hits theaters on June 19, now carries a runtime of 150 minutes — that’s 2 hours and 30 minutes of pure entertainment.
This marks a major milestone for Kriti Sanon, as Cocktail 2 becomes her first-ever adult-rated film in her 12-year career. For Rashmika Mandanna, it’s her second ‘A’-certified Hindi film after the blockbuster Animal (2023). Shahid Kapoor, meanwhile, adds another adult-rated film to his filmography, joining Kaminey (2009), Udta Punjab (2016), Kabir Singh (2019), and O’Romeo (2026). Interestingly, this is the first time Shahid has delivered two consecutive adult-rated films.
The original Cocktail (2012), starring Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Diana Penty, had a U/A certificate and a runtime of 146 minutes. Directed by Homi Adajania and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films, the sequel promises to be bolder and longer.
Advance Bookings Open, Buzz at Fever Pitch
Advance bookings for Cocktail 2 opened at midnight on June 14, and the response has been electric. Industry insiders say the film’s youthful appeal, chartbuster music, and fresh casting have fans lining up. The franchise value of Cocktail, combined with the star power of Shahid, Kriti, and Rashmika, has created a perfect storm of excitement.
With Welcome To The Jungle also releasing around the same time, the next two weeks are shaping up to be a box office battleground. But Cocktail 2 seems to have an edge with its adult rating, which could attract a more mature audience looking for bold content.
What This Means for the Stars
For Kriti Sanon, the ‘A’ certificate is a new chapter. Known for her versatile roles in films like Mimi and Bareilly Ki Barfi, she’s now stepping into edgier territory. Rashmika Mandanna, who wowed audiences in Animal, continues to build her reputation for choosing bold projects. Shahid Kapoor, no stranger to intense roles, seems to be on a roll with consecutive adult-rated films.
As the release date approaches, all eyes are on Cocktail 2. Will it match the magic of the original? One thing’s for sure — this sequel is not holding back.
